鈥淭he faculty is comprised of both older professors using more traditional teaching styles such as the Socratic Method, and younger professors that bring helpful insight[s] into today鈥檚 practice of law into the classroom,鈥 explains a 2L. While a few professors here 鈥渨ould be better suited to write articles all day long and not get anywhere near the classroom,鈥 鈥渢he quality of the instruction is fantastic鈥 overall. 鈥淢ost of the professors are really energetic and relevant,鈥 says a 1L, 鈥渁nd they encourage lively discussion.鈥 This faculty is also 鈥渄evoted鈥 and 鈥渁lmost always accessible鈥 outside of class. The 鈥渧ery accessible and accommodating鈥 administration is 鈥渁lways putting the students first鈥 and 鈥渃ommitted to raising the school鈥檚 profile.鈥 鈥淚 have never had a problem too big or too small for them to address,鈥 reminisces a 3L. 鈥淚t has been great.鈥 Upper-level students can choose from a range of elective courses in fields like health law, refugee and asylum law, entertainment law, and immigration policy, though some students would like the school to 鈥渁dd more electives鈥 to the program.
The Career Services staff is generally 鈥渨onderful,鈥 and employment prospects are reportedly excellent. Starting salaries are lower than what you鈥檒l find in more populous places. Arkansas is very inexpensive, though, and it鈥檚 one of those states where everybody seems to know everybody else. Consequently, 鈥渢he networking abilities within the city and state鈥 are definitely a strength. Also, with Walmart and gargantuan food conglomerate Tyson 鈥渏ust down the road,鈥 Northwest Arkansas is a relatively booming area of the country that 鈥減rovides many unique opportunities for employment with both law firms and major corporations.鈥 鈥淲e have some students who go 鈥榖ig law鈥 in the major cities; we have some students who set up shop in rural Arkansas; we have some who go in-house; and we have a lot of government employees, too,鈥 says a 3L.
鈥淭he facilities are old in some areas but brand-new in others,鈥 and there are 鈥渓ots of small nooks to study in.鈥 The old classrooms that are still used for nearly all of the first-year classes are 鈥渙kay鈥 at best. 鈥淭he wood paneling is dark and depressing and reminiscent of an old station wagon,鈥 describes a 2L. A newer wing has 鈥渆rgonomic and aesthetically pleasing鈥 classrooms that are 鈥渢echnology-friendly.鈥 鈥淭he research facilities are great鈥 in the 鈥渃omprehensive鈥 library. There鈥檚 an onsite coffee shop, too, 鈥渨hich is great for study breaks when you need to recaffeinate.鈥

Campus Life
Students Say
According to one view, social life can be hard for transplants because a lot of students come pre-equipped with their own cliques. 鈥淧eople who went to undergraduate school here seem to hang out with each other,鈥 says a 3L. 鈥淢any of the groups do not appear to be very inclusive of other students not in their normal social circle.鈥 Other students describe the environment as 鈥渧ery communal.鈥 鈥淵ou get to know your fellow students and professors very well,鈥 says a 2L. Socially satisfied students also point to the 鈥渨ide availability鈥 of clubs and organizations and the fact that the student bar association is 鈥渁ctive in providing events outside of the law school to鈥help] get your mind off of classes.鈥 Campus sporting events are another big draw鈥攅specially football鈥攁nd the surrounding Ozarks provide plenty of options for adventure activity. Fayetteville is very much a college town with 鈥渁 unique feel that allows for people of many different cultures and backgrounds to feel at home.鈥 Dickson Street, the hub of Fayetteville nightlife, adjoins the campus, so you can revel with party-hardy undergrads any time you want to blow off your cases.
