Seattle University 鈥淸offers] a great academic experience鈥 while fostering 鈥渁 challenging but supportive environment.鈥 The 鈥済reat faculty, tremendous core values, [and] excellent course selection,鈥 are influenced by the school鈥檚 Jesuit tradition. This 鈥渕ission of social justice鈥 divides the opinions of students. Some praise it as 鈥渙ne of the greatest strengths of this school.鈥 The school鈥檚 location in one of America鈥檚 hippest cities 鈥渁ffords many opportunities for externships and doing pro bono work.鈥 Seattle offers many benefits, both socially and career-wise, to students. The school is very 鈥渃onnected to the local legal community.鈥
鈥淭he facilities are outstanding鈥 at Seattle University, with a 鈥渂right and open鈥 building that is 鈥渞eally nice, modern, and inviting.鈥 The law school is 鈥渁lways a comfortable temperature,鈥 has 鈥渆xcellent wireless access,鈥 and features 鈥減lenty of places to study and plenty of plug ins for laptops.鈥 There are 鈥渢ons of places to meet in groups or hide to study alone,鈥 especially in the library where you can even 鈥渆at and drink鈥 while hitting the books. 鈥淭he library staff [is] very accessible and helpful鈥 and 鈥渆ven the custodial staff and the baristas are sweethearts.鈥
Academically, the most constantly praised program is easily the 鈥渢op notch鈥 鈥渘umber one-ranked legal writing program.鈥 鈥淭he legal writing program really shines and local employers take that into account when making hiring decisions,鈥 a 1L explains. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the only reason anyone that has a job after graduation got that job,鈥 says a 3L. 鈥淥ne of the highlights really has to be the center for professional development,鈥 and students also praise the law clinics. The 鈥渧ery passionate鈥 professors 鈥渓iterally beg students to come to office hours.鈥 Some do suggest professors can be 鈥渁 mixed bag.鈥 鈥淭he professors and deans are very accessible and willing to talk to/work with students to solve any problems,鈥 and they work to ensure classes are 鈥渁lways a collaborative and encouraging but challenging environment.鈥 A 2L elaborates: 鈥淭he teaching focus is traditional with modern twists: how would this rule of evidence apply to text messages? Is opening an email an unlawful search? What free sources of research are available on the internet?鈥 However, one 2L fears that 鈥渢he theme of 鈥榮ocial justice鈥 has overrun the theme of creating employable lawyers.鈥 鈥淚 loved every class and for the first time in my educational career, I actually WANTED to do my homework!鈥 one pleased student declares. Seattle University 鈥渉osts frequent events both social and otherwise,鈥 which fosters 鈥渃amaraderie between students.鈥 The student body is somewhat divided 鈥渂etween the day and evening students,鈥 two groups that are 鈥渄ifferent and [do] not socialize with each other.鈥 This may be exacerbated by the fact that 鈥渕ost of the school events, activities, and classes are geared towards day-students.鈥 The school鈥檚 location 鈥渢he midst of a great Seattle neighborhood鈥 provide plenty of nightlife and off-campus activities. 鈥淪eattle is definitely gray and rainy, but that is part of the package,鈥 and students enjoy 鈥渂eing located in such a progressive city.鈥
