Founded in 1878, Creighton is a Jesuit-affiliated university that 鈥渨ill uplift you rather than scare you.鈥 The Jesuit tradition is embodied in the School of Law鈥檚 motto: 鈥渆ducating for service and justice.鈥 Creighton looks to produce attorneys that are not only skilled and knowledgeable, but who work to service society at large. The school offers four areas of concentration as well as four joint-degree programs. Supreme Court Justice Thomas even co-teaches a class at Creighton on a biannual basis. The school has a 鈥渄edicated alumni base.鈥 鈥淟ocated in an economically strong region,鈥 Creighton University offers students many opportunities in Omaha, 鈥渙ne of the best business cities in the United States.鈥 Students rave about the 鈥渘etworking if you plan to stay in Omaha,鈥 although 鈥渢he Career Development Office is not optimized for students wanting to practice outside Nebraska.鈥
One thing that is important at any law school is the library, and Creighton students rave about the 鈥渂eautiful,鈥 鈥渓arge, and well-equipped鈥 library that is replete 鈥渨ith plenty of available study rooms, computer labs, and private workstations.鈥 鈥淭he resources available in the library are fantastic,鈥 and 鈥渢he research librarians are always there to help with finding anything and teach you how to find it on your own.鈥 If there is a primary complaint about Creighton, it is 鈥淐ost. Cost. Cost.鈥 鈥淚t鈥檚 quite expensive, especially considering the earning potential in the rural areas of the Midwest,鈥 a 3L explains. However, another student says that despite being on 鈥渢he high end for the cost of tuition,鈥 鈥渕ost people who end up in law firms will be making anywhere from 50k to 80k.鈥
The cost of Creighton is offset by the 鈥渁wesome professors鈥 without whom 鈥淐reighton Law wouldn鈥檛 be worth it.鈥 These 鈥渄edicated, knowledgeable, passionate educators,鈥 are 鈥渁ll well versed in law and have accomplished backgrounds.鈥 鈥淚 love my professors!鈥 a 3L declares. 鈥淭hey have very diverse viewpoints and methods of teaching, yet most of them seem very invested in our education.鈥 The administration is also 鈥渁lways helpful and friendly.鈥 鈥淚 cannot imagine needing something that the school does not already offer,鈥 one student says. The dean of the law school is 鈥渁ccessible to the entire student body and sees herself as the 鈥榤om鈥 of the school.鈥 鈥淭he education I receive is tailored to me,鈥 a 2L says. 鈥淭he practical experiences available at Creighton are unreal鈥 including 鈥渢rial teams [that] are competitive nationally鈥 as well as a Negotiations team 鈥渢aught by the man who wrote the book on Negotiations competitions鈥攓uite literally.鈥 Students are very pleased with the school鈥檚 鈥渙pen door policy鈥 which encourages students to interact with professors one-on-one. Perhaps most importantly, the professors 鈥減rovide numerous opportunities to learn about and make connections with potential employers in the Omaha area.鈥 Although Creighton is not ranked as highly as many other schools, students say they 鈥渉ave never felt that I was at a disadvantage or less prepared for practical law work than students from more 鈥榩restigious鈥 law schools.鈥 One student sums his experience up thusly: 鈥淚 do not know if I could say enough wonderful things about Creighton Law School and how pleased I have been with my experience here.鈥

Campus Life

Students Say

Being situated in Omaha, the largest city in Nebraska, provides Creighton students with plenty of job and social opportunities. 鈥淓veryone is friendly and social鈥 and 鈥渢end to skew a little older with much more work experience than I thought coming in.鈥 鈥淎s far as politics, it appears to me that professors and students alike are right down the middle,鈥 a 3L says. The school is 鈥渓acking, and visibly so鈥 in racial and cultural diversity though. 鈥淚 can literally count the number of non-white students,鈥 one student says, and another thinks 鈥渢he school needs more female students/applicants.鈥 Students do report that the school is making strides on both fronts. It would be remiss of us not to note the 鈥渢op ranked basketball team鈥 which is a huge 鈥渟elling point and attracts high attendance from undergrad and law students.鈥
