Students Say

Located in Milwaukee, Marquette University is academically 鈥渃hallenging, but very supportive.鈥 The school encourages students to challenge themselves through their studies 鈥渞ather than to compete with others.鈥 This creates an environment in which students are a part 鈥渙f a community, not just a law school.鈥 The 鈥渘ormal stereotype of law school being a cut throat environment does not seem to apply鈥 to Marquette. Here 鈥渟tudents help each other,鈥 and 鈥渢he administration and faculty really care about鈥 the students and 鈥渄o everything they can to help鈥 students with 鈥渟chool or their lives outside of school.鈥
In addition to its 鈥減eaceful and supportive social environment,鈥 Marquette is known for its 鈥渆xperience programs in public service鈥 and 鈥渇ocus on networking in the local legal community.鈥 Students at Marquette receive 鈥渙ne of the best, most well-rounded, legal educations available in the country鈥 says one student. Students roundly praised 鈥渢he caliber of its faculty,鈥 鈥渢he engaged student body,鈥 and 鈥渢he school鈥檚 connections to the Milwaukee legal community.鈥 Several students noted the Sports Law program as one of the main reasons they were drawn to the university. And Marquette offers a range of 鈥渟pecialty programs (specifically sports law, alternative dispute resolution, and moot court).鈥
The 鈥減ractical education鈥 provided 鈥渢hrough workshops, seminars, and intern/externships鈥 prepares students 鈥渇or the workforce.鈥 鈥淚 feel prepared to become an attorney and start working immediately upon graduation,鈥 notes one student. 鈥淓ven as a 1L you are able to get involved and gain real world experiences through our phenomenal Pro Bono Society,鈥 notes another. Students say their 鈥減rofessors truly care about what they are teaching and enjoy teaching law.鈥 鈥淭hey make sure they are engaging,鈥 and 鈥渨ork with the students on multiple levels鈥 to make 鈥渟ure the class actually learns the materials,鈥 rather than 鈥渏ust spitting it back out for an exam.鈥 Students at Marquette feel truly supported by the faculty, noting that the faculty is actively 鈥渆ngaged in helping their students succeed, whether it鈥檚 staying late to help a struggling student or helping connect someone with a potential employer.鈥
The 鈥渇aculty is highly esteemed in their practice areas鈥 and 鈥渨ell connected in local and national markets.鈥 Professors 鈥渞un programs for intern and externships all over the city and country.鈥 As one student notes 鈥渢his resource is invaluable to our legal education and our ability to leave law school with strong practical skills and resumes that make us attractive hires鈥濃攚hich is especially important in a tough job market. Milwaukee also has 鈥渁 strong and active [legal] community that are always willing to network and meet with outgoing students who take advantage of that opportunity.鈥
As the 鈥渙nly law school in a large city, Milwaukee,鈥 Marquette provides 鈥渢he legal intern work force for the city, which is a huge advantage over cities with several law schools all trying to get the same internships.鈥 The school offers 鈥減rograms to introduce the legal community to the law school through speakers and events鈥 and the 鈥渁dministration and career planning are extremely approachable and receptive to student needs.鈥
And, because the law school building is only five years old, its facilities are new and 鈥渢op notch.鈥 As on student notes: 鈥淚t is very nice to have all your needs met in one building . . . gym, cafe, kitchen, classrooms, library, ping-pong, parking, and social gathering spots.鈥 鈥淭he research facilities/resources and classrooms are definitely top of the line.鈥 The building is 鈥渦nbelievably beautiful and provides the students, faculty, and guests with any technology and accommodations needed or wanted.鈥 The school has 鈥渆xcellent research resources, including a team of librarians who are ready to help day and night.鈥
