Students Say

New York鈥檚 Pace University School of Law has earned a regional reputation as a leader in its field because it has excelled in its specialty of environmental law. The 鈥渙ne-of-a-kind鈥 environmental law curriculum wins praise for offering 鈥渁 variety of courses鈥 taught by faculty who are 鈥渉ighly respected and known in the environmental community.鈥 This 鈥渂road鈥 program 鈥渙ffers a unique specialization within the legal profession鈥 taught by 鈥渟ome of the greatest professors available,鈥 and one that has proven to be the best known aspect of Pace鈥檚 law program. However, students point out that Pace is 鈥渘ot just an environmental law school鈥 think Pace has rested on this reputation for far too long.鈥
Educators at Pace aim to ensure graduates are 鈥渞eadily prepared to enter the working field and perform at a high level.鈥 Internships abound, including study abroad opportunities that allow you to work at overseas law firms or intern with a war crime tribunal. The 鈥渁mazing鈥 professors here 鈥渁re interested in their students鈥 growth, understanding, and achievement and are for the most part available for help and talking outside of the classroom.鈥 Indeed, they will 鈥渇requently even give students their home phone numbers if they need to call for questions.鈥 Some suggest the quality of professors can be 鈥渉it or miss,鈥 with some going so far as to say that 鈥渢he professors are either very good or very poor with very little in between.鈥 However, according to most these educators 鈥渁re intelligent, love their jobs, and are always helpful.鈥 These teachers 鈥渨ork hard to help us and are excellent at the subjects they teach and conveying the subjects to us.鈥
Student opinions on the administration are mixed, with some indicating that the administration鈥檚 unwillingness to confront problems or ideas presented by students 鈥渄etracts from all the great resources available to those who attend Pace.鈥 Other members of the faculty win praise. Many students note that 鈥渢he librarians are fantastic at helping students and explaining research tools to students.鈥 Gripes with the administration aside, overall 鈥渢he quality of the faculty coupled with the genuine care in preparation of students is unrivaled.鈥 The trick is letting people know鈥攕tudents would love to see Pace gain a wider reputation.

Campus Life

Students Say

With a campus in the Westchester County suburbs of New York City, life at Pace Law School can be as active as you want to make it. It is not cheap to live here鈥擶hite Plains 鈥渋s an expensive place to live鈥濃攂ut the school is proximate enough to the five boroughs of New York City, as well as the NYC suburbs, that commuting to school is common. The 鈥渆xtremely professional鈥 and 鈥渆xtremely polite鈥 people on campus, both staff and students alike, create an 鈥渋ntimate atmosphere鈥 in which students feel 鈥渃lose to (their) peers.鈥 Student organizations are many, so 鈥渟ocial life is there if you want it, but you鈥檙e not an outcast if you don鈥檛.鈥
The situation with the campus itself is not as universally beloved. Despite its reputation as a cutting edge environmental law school, 鈥渢here is nothing particularly cutting-edge about the technology on campus.鈥 Students complain that 鈥渢he wireless is frequently down,鈥 and that the 鈥渨indowless鈥 auditorium-style classrooms lack natural lighting. Despite these complaints, one student summed up a common sentiment: 鈥淚 consider myself to be very fortunate to be a Pace law student.鈥
