Students Say

Tucked away in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Liberty is a 鈥渃onservative,鈥 鈥淐hristian鈥 university that teaches law 鈥渇rom a biblical perspective.鈥 Not surprisingly, the school attracts applicants with similar 鈥渧alues and morals.鈥 Of course, it also draws in students thanks to the 鈥渞igorous鈥 academics and 鈥渟mall鈥 class sizes. The coursework itself is geared towards the 鈥減ractical鈥 and 鈥渢aught in as simple a manner as complex legal theories allow.鈥 And while the university does 鈥渆ncourage [students] to compete for class rank,鈥 it simultaneously pushes everyone 鈥渢o help each other rather than cut each other down.鈥 Hence, 鈥渁nyone who would look to sabotage someone else would be an outlier, to say the least.鈥

Additionally, Liberty retains 鈥渢op notch鈥 professors who are deeply motivated to 鈥渢each law and teach it well.鈥 They also tend to be 鈥渋ncredibly caring鈥 and 鈥渢ruly seek to have relationships with all of their students.鈥 For example, they are 鈥渁lways willing to meet with you and go above and beyond to answer any questions you have.鈥 Even better, their 鈥渧ast amount of knowledge鈥 is bolstered by their 鈥渄ecades of experience within their respective fields.鈥

Just as critical, Liberty Law provides students with 鈥済reat鈥 resources. To begin with, the library鈥檚 鈥渟election of material and recorded legal opinions鈥 is incredibly 鈥渆xpansive.鈥 Students also love that 鈥渙pportunities to compete in moot competitions鈥 abound. Moreover, they rush to highlight the fact that it鈥檚 quite easy to snag 鈥渋nternships and externships.鈥 However, there is one consistent complaint 鈥渢he fact that we don鈥檛 have our own Law School building.鈥 And, sadly, the facilities to which these law students are privy feel 鈥減retty small鈥 and provide 鈥渧ery little natural light.鈥

Fortunately, despite the lackluster classrooms, the administration remains well regarded by the students. We鈥檙e told that they are 鈥渁lways very helpful鈥 and they do 鈥渨hat [they] can to ensure that everything behind the scenes runs well.鈥 Students also applaud the fact that the administration is 鈥渨illing to receive constructive criticism鈥 and open to making 鈥渃hanges鈥 when appropriate. And a handful single out Dean Faulkner who is doing 鈥済reat work to increase the notoriety of Liberty law鈥 and to ensure that 鈥渋t is a place where genuine growth occurs.鈥

Campus Life

Students Say

"Liberty University鈥檚 law school fosters an 鈥淸incredible] family atmosphere.鈥 Indeed, students happily report that 鈥渆veryone is loving and encouraging [of] each other.鈥 They truly want to see their peers 鈥渟ucceed.鈥 In turn, this creates a 鈥渧ery cooperative and collaborative environment.鈥 Liberty students also maintain 鈥渁 high degree of trust and expectation of honor.鈥 As this future lawyer explains, 鈥淭he law school horror stories of stolen books, stolen computers, ripped pages, are non-existent at Liberty. People leave keys, wallets, phones, computers, textbooks, you name it, out openly on desks with no fear that it will be stolen.鈥 The one note of criticism students seem to have is that minority representation is 鈥渟eriously lacking鈥 at Liberty. However, this is tempered by assurances that 鈥渢hose who are minorities seem to be accepted without any issue.鈥

Importantly, the university makes it rather easy to lead a robust life beyond the classroom. After all, Liberty provides 鈥渋nnumerable things to do on campus.鈥 Students can enjoy everything from 鈥渋ntramural sports, D1 Sports, skiing, ice skating, horseback riding [and] dirt bikes/4-wheelers鈥 to 鈥渟hooting range[s], disc golf, swimming, hiking, biking [and] fishing.鈥 In other words, 鈥淵ou name it, it鈥檚 available for free as a student at LU.鈥
