The professors are a big part of what makes Vanderbilt鈥檚 Law School so successful. Students report that 鈥渕ost professors here love teaching,鈥 and 鈥渕y professors are excellent, every class is fun and engaging.鈥 Another mentions that the 鈥減rofessors could not be better, incredibly intelligent and engaged, they care very much about the students and are incredibly dedicated to their students鈥 academic progress. I could not be happier with my academic experience.鈥
Law students are happy with the academics, but mention that they鈥檇 like the school to 鈥減lace greater emphasis on practice of law and the changing landscape of the legal profession.鈥 Students still mention how supportive the entire administration is for their academics and their future careers, saying, 鈥渋t鈥檚 hard to emphasize enough how much the tone of collegiality starts with the administration鈥攖hey treat students as colleagues, not customers.鈥
A few students are concerned about what鈥檚 next after graduation and believe 鈥渃areer services could use some work,鈥 while others say 鈥渙ur Career Services staff is committed and involved.鈥 In addition to using the traditional roadmap set out by career services, finding a strong position after graduation may mean taking advantage of 鈥渢he network鈥 of VLS alumni across the nation, and more and more students get help from their professors, 鈥渨ho are reliably wonderful when it comes to help with the job search.鈥
A few students also imply everyone鈥檚 a little young: 鈥淭o reach the next level, Vandy will need to recruit students who have been in the workforce before law school. As it is, students may arrive without much clear direction for their careers, and they may not find it in law school.鈥 Still, the majority of entering students have a least one year of work experience prior to enrolling in law school. The school continues to make strides in diversity, and students point out that 鈥済roups for women and minorities are very active within the law school community.鈥

The law school has been described as 鈥渞elatively small鈥 with a 鈥渉appy, sociable student body.鈥漈he compact size allows students to create 鈥減ersonal relationships with our professors.鈥 Every Friday, students gather with professors and staff for social events sponsored by a student group, academic program, administrative office, or legal employer, and they are 鈥渆ncouraged to take breaks from studying and go out and see Nashville.鈥 Other students point out that financial concerns can somehow alter their social lives, saying 鈥渁s much as I love my colleagues here, most of them come from money鈥 to the point that some students report they 鈥渙ften feel out of place.鈥 The social students seem to be less concerned about finding a job after graduation, and the 鈥溾榖ook smart鈥 students and the 鈥榮ocial butterflies鈥 are rarely the same people.鈥 Still, as one graduating student told us, 鈥淭he people are what make the school.鈥
