At the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management, experiential learning, proximity to Fortune 500 companies, a 鈥渟tellar鈥 Career Center, and a 鈥渞obust dual degree program鈥 are just a few of the happy offerings on tap for those who take advantage of the school鈥檚 various MBA tracks. The school 鈥渕akes life very enjoyable for the student body,鈥 administrators are 鈥減assionate advocates鈥 for the programs, and 鈥渟taff members go out of their way to remove barriers to success for students.鈥 Both the administration and professors 鈥渁re very receptive to student feedback鈥 and 鈥渁re willing to change their approach to best suit the students.鈥 This includes 鈥渦pdating, removing, and replacing required courses; and providing specific resources to students.鈥

The workload at Carlson is well balanced. Students say course work is 鈥渃hallenging, but it doesn鈥檛 take hours of your day up to get it done鈥 (the exception being some of the core curriculum, which 鈥渃an be brutal some weeks鈥). The academic rigor is 鈥渟ufficient for most students, even those with a business background,鈥 and 鈥渆nterprise experience. . . gives real world experience and legitimate projects from companies.鈥 Smaller cohort sizes 鈥渓everage wiggle space, and a more personalized MBA program is the outcome,鈥 which includes 鈥渓ots of coaching and mentoring being offered.鈥 The beloved professors 鈥渃an apply the principles they鈥檙e trying to teach us in a real world example while at the same time getting us to laugh.鈥 鈥淲e have beers on occasion and it鈥檚 nice to know that these people have other interests than just class,鈥 says a student. They 鈥渙ffer many options to help us balance both school and work,鈥 including includes the ability to choose which two or three cases students want to write an analysis on, and courses of varying lengths throughout the semester.
