Located in a gorgeous, unique region of the Mid-Atlantic, the College of Business at Western Carolina University has worked hard to distinguish itself from other MBA programs, and has built a 鈥渞eputation for not being an 鈥榓ssembly-line鈥 program.鈥 Students are encouraged to think for themselves and become effectively 鈥渂etter equipped to deal with future challenges.鈥 The small size of the school means that each student 鈥渉as good learning opportunities鈥 and 鈥済ets a lot of attention鈥 from the 鈥渆xcellent, accessible professors with relevant professional experience.鈥 All in all, WCU offers a 鈥渜uality MBA program with experienced, grounded faculty at a great price.鈥
Although the school is based in Cullowhee鈥斺渁n exceptional environment鈥濃攁lmost all of the MBA courses are held in Asheville. The school is very 鈥渙riented towards face-toface classes鈥 in Asheville and uses very little 鈥渘ew technology鈥 (such as videoconferencing and electronic communications) for its courses. Professors and administrators 鈥渄o a decent job of being available, considering that the main campus is over an hour away from our location.鈥 Both are 鈥渆ager to tailoring course material to how students actually learn,鈥 and the professors 鈥渁re very knowledgeable and have a lot of professional experience.鈥 The program heads and assistants are also 鈥渞eadily available and helpful with any questions that may arise.鈥
The program鈥檚 core courses are about mastering management in applied settings; students form small work groups and are trained to deal with real-world problems. Through the school鈥檚 new MBA curriculum, developed in collaboration with faculty, recent graduates, and local employers, students learn and often perform the functions of chief officers in marketing, research and development, information technology, operations, legal affairs, finance, and the chief executive office.
