Academics

The Haas School of Business at the University of California鈥擝erkeley is a 鈥渢op school for academics and recruitment opportunities,鈥 especially 鈥渙n the West Coast.鈥 Students here note that the MBA program is 鈥渙utstanding on all levels: professionally, academically, and socially.鈥 Thanks to an environment that encourages student involvement and input, most here 鈥渇eel like they have a real role in shaping their own academic experiences.鈥 As one student explains, there are 鈥渁 million ways to get involved and really make a difference. Experiential learning opportunities everywhere you turn.鈥 Things 鈥渕ove fast here鈥 thanks to the structure of the courses, but students find themselves supported by 鈥渇antastic鈥 and 鈥渁ccessible鈥 professors who 鈥渟incerely care鈥 about these future entrepreneurs. 鈥淲e learn from professors who not only are recognized as top academics in their respective fields, but also professionals who shape the direction of the industry,鈥 explains one student. Additionally, Haas鈥 administration 鈥渟eems to have a singular focus on improving the experience for students.鈥 According to students, 鈥淭hey go to great lengths to take in, process, and change the program per student recommendations.鈥

Students praise the 鈥渟mall, intimate program鈥 for being exactly that: 鈥渟mall鈥 and 鈥渋ntimate.鈥 鈥淲e only have 240 students per class (at least officially...sometimes one or two more get added),鈥 says one student. This 鈥渢ight-knit鈥 environment creates a distinctly 鈥渃ollaborative culture鈥 that forges lasting connections (which come in handy after graduation). The 鈥渃aliber of students, faculty, administration, and career services staff鈥 are all 鈥渢op-notch,鈥 which provides a solid base for development. 鈥淗aas excels at entrepreneurship (not just social entrepreneurship),鈥 explains one student. 鈥淚ts heavy involvement and leadership in the Berkeley Energy Resources Collaborative (BERC) provides great opportunities in alternative/green energy entrepreneurship.鈥 The school also offers a 鈥渉ealth care and international business focus.鈥 Another key component of the program is its 鈥渃lose ties鈥 and proximity 鈥渢o Silicon Valley.鈥 Students also single out their 鈥渆xcellent鈥 dean, Richard Lyons, for praise. As one student says, 鈥淗e鈥檚 an energetic, reputable professor who spent time in the real world on Wall Street.鈥
