Academics
A university founded in the Jesuit tradition, 鈥淟oyola is a school that is focused on developing the entire individual,鈥 and business ethics is a mainstay of the MBA program. While MBA course content resembles other graduate business programs, Loyola distinguishes itself in a number of ways. In particular, 鈥渟uccess is not measured in dollars, but rather [in] how one can contribute to society in a meaningful and productive way.鈥 To that end, 鈥渆very class incorporates ethics and ethical situations and relates them to realworld business issues.鈥 At the same time, the curriculum focuses on practical business, and 鈥渋s very relevant and applicable.鈥 Through coursework, students work in teams, analyze case studies, or work on live projects in cooperation with a partner business or organization. A current student enthuses, 鈥淚 take advantage of student organizations and outside consulting projects, and often feel that these have more value than my classes.鈥 To add an international perspective to the MBA, 鈥渢he study abroad program is fantastic,鈥 offering numerous two-week summer courses overseas. Another student tells us, 鈥淚 will be afforded wonderful study abroad opportunities through this program and will be traveling to China, India, and Rome.鈥
Combining expertise with excellence, the majority of Loyola professors are 鈥渉ighly experienced and make the learning experience worthwhile.鈥 While there are some 鈥減ure academics鈥 on staff, they are outnumbered by current and former business leaders, who bring real-world content to the coursework. In fact, Loyola鈥檚 adjunct professors 鈥渁re among the best at bringing a 鈥榬eal-world鈥 perspective into the classroom.鈥 Most importantly, professors are 鈥渧ery enthusiastic about their subject and classes, and they all very much love teaching.鈥 As a result, 鈥渢he classroom experience is dynamic and engaging,鈥 and the 鈥渢hought-provoking course content鈥 inspires discussion and critical thinking. A student remarks, 鈥淚 have enjoyed many of my classes so much, I am actually somewhat disappointed when the quarter comes to an end!鈥 At the same time, Loyola is a large school, so it鈥檚 easier to get lost in the crowds. A current student admits, 鈥淚t鈥檚 difficult to have good, thoughtful discussions in classes with fifty people in attendance.鈥
Loyola鈥檚 鈥渇lexible class schedule鈥 is great for part-time students, and 鈥渢he course load is perfect for a professional who has a full-time job.鈥 In addition, the 鈥渁bility to switch between full-time and part-time status鈥 gives students the opportunity to complete their degree at their own pace. Full-timers, on the other hand, sometimes feel 鈥渢he course work doesn鈥檛 seem as challenging as it could be.鈥 A school on the move, 鈥淭he GSB has grown considerably just within the last year,鈥 and students admit, 鈥淭he administration seems a little overwhelmed by the number of students currently enrolled.鈥 Fortunately, a student writes, 鈥淭he school is committed to providing students with an exceptional experience. When there are hurdles to overcome, the administration is quick to identify how things might improve.鈥
