Academics
To say that Webber International University, a coeducational school due south of Orlando and east of Tampa, is 鈥渧ery business oriented鈥 is to put it mildly; 鈥渟trictly business鈥 is more like it. The school offers nine business-related majors, of which management, marketing, and sports management programs are most popular. WIU鈥檚 enrollment of about 600 students allows undergrads to enjoy 鈥渙ne-on-one attention due to small class sizes.鈥 The 鈥渒nowledgeable,鈥 鈥渄own-to-earth鈥 professors here are 鈥渧ery accessible in and out of school,鈥 鈥渃are about your success,鈥 and are 鈥済reat at what they do.鈥 Students also appreciate an administration that is 鈥渨ell organized, friendly, [and] willing to help when they can,鈥 right on up to the top spot; WIU鈥檚 president 鈥渒nows everyone and is seen often around campus and at campus events.鈥 Undergrads speak highly of the university鈥檚 Career Services Department, which provides students with 鈥渙n-campus recruiting opportunities for full-time employment, summer jobs, and internships.鈥 Career Services advisors also help to solidify student career objectives and alert students to job openings in their chosen field. WIU offers travel-abroad opportunities to students of all majors in an effort to expose undergrads to international business protocol.
Student Body
WIU students describe themselves as 鈥渇riendly, outgoing, and helpful.鈥 While the majority (about 70 percent) of WIU鈥檚 students are Florida residents, a good portion of the student body hails from locations all over the globe. 鈥淲e have a lot of international students,鈥 comments one undergrad, adding, 鈥淓verybody seems to feel comfortable here.鈥 Many here 鈥渁re sports oriented鈥; according to one student, 鈥淲e all play sports, so everyone is athletic.鈥 Students feel that people from all backgrounds mesh well at WIU largely 鈥渂ecause of sports organizations.鈥 However, students don鈥檛 have to be athletic to fit in. 鈥淎lthough we have a large athletic population,鈥 comments one student, 鈥渢here is still a diverse group of students, leaving it open for any individual to fit in.鈥
Campus Life
The WIU campus is situated in a quiet, rural area of central Florida that provides 鈥渁 good education鈥 in a 鈥渜uiet atmosphere [that is] mainly focused on business studies. A short drive transports students to many popular attractions. Students describe their campus as a 鈥渃lose-knit environment,鈥 and report that extracurricular life includes 鈥渂onfires, beach parties, and baseball.鈥 The university boasts a sizable Athletic Department, so participating in and attending sporting events is a popular pastime. Business-related clubs, such as Phi Beta Lambda and the Marketing Club, are also popular. These pastimes aside, WIU students tend to make their own fun. 鈥淔or fun we go to Orlando or Tampa for events like clubbing, Gasparilla, Mardi Gras, etc. and for shopping and movies,鈥 explains one student. Nearby Lake Kissimmee State Park offers great opportunities for camping, hiking, boating, and fishing.
