With a student body of 14,000, 鈥渢here is no typical student at UNF.鈥 Filled with 鈥渇riendly鈥 people who are mostly 鈥渇rom Florida,鈥 UNF students 鈥渓ove to learn and are actively involved in making a real difference.鈥 Possessing 鈥渁ll the aspects of a huge state college with a much more laid back feel,鈥 鈥渆veryone is very friendly, and there are many organizations to be a part of.鈥 Many students touted the tolerant atmosphere at UNF, saying that there is an 鈥渁ctive LGBT community鈥 and 鈥渆veryone seems to be tolerant of each other regardless of how they look, what their race or ethnicity is.鈥 Another student noted that 鈥渃ultural diversity seems to be celebrated by students and faculty,鈥 and that 鈥渟tudents can feel free to be themselves and express themselves accordingly.鈥 As one student put it, 鈥渨e are all different in our own ways. We fit in like pieces of a puzzle. Nobody judges you.鈥
Student Body
Students at UNF are an active bunch, and life on campus is described as 鈥渇illed with studying and extra-curricular activities.鈥 With 鈥渕any clubs and organizations that fit the life or interests of any student,鈥 most students are 鈥渋nvolved in a campus activity, either frats or student government, or have a part time job.鈥 The 鈥渂eautiful鈥 campus is largely conducive to outdoor activities, as it is 鈥渟ituated on 1300 acres鈥 with 鈥渘ature trails great for hiking, mountain biking, or trail running鈥 and 鈥渓akes where students can rent canoes and paddle around.鈥 For those not interested in the great outdoors, UNF is located in the city of Jacksonville, where students can partake in everything from sporting events to the beach and dance clubs. Although there is plenty to do for fun, students complained loudly about the lack of parking, saying that 鈥渢here isn鈥檛 enough parking to accommodate the current students without LONG walks to campus.鈥 The administration also caught a lot flack, with complaints that 鈥渟ervices are departmentalized so much that you have to speak with dozens of different people to find out all the information on one topic.鈥
Campus Life
At UNF, 鈥渟tudents get an excellent education, for a terrifically low tuition, by knowledgeable and caring instructors.鈥 Professors are described as 鈥渒nowledgeable鈥 with a 鈥渨orking knowledge of real business practices.鈥 鈥淲hat they teach is applicable to the real world,鈥 so students feel prepared 鈥渇or opportunities in the professional world.鈥 Professors were also praised for their accessibility, with students reporting that they have 鈥渘ever had a situation where a professor was unavailable,鈥 and that 鈥渋t is not uncommon for instructors to give students their home phone number.鈥 鈥淎lthough the class offerings are 鈥渞elatively small,鈥 UNF 鈥渁ccommodates a wide variety of students, from those interested in out-of-class activities to serious research scholars.鈥 Many students raved about the 鈥減ersonal experience鈥 at UNF, where 鈥渟mall size and scholarship offers make me feel like I really matter,鈥 and 鈥測ou鈥檙e not a number, you鈥檙e a person.鈥
