Academics

Walla Walla University is a 鈥淪eventh-Day Adventist institution of higher education dedicated to excellence in thought, generosity in service, beauty in expression, and faith in God.鈥 It offers undergraduates an 鈥渆ducation of mind, body, and spirit鈥 through 鈥渁 wide range of degree [programs] in a semi-liberal Christian environment.鈥 Students appreciate the 鈥渟mall classes鈥 that 鈥渉elp facilitate more discussion,鈥 as well as the 鈥減ersonal attention from professors.鈥 (And when they say 鈥減ersonal,鈥 they mean it. 鈥淪ome professors schedule 30鈥60 minute individual meetings with all students multiple times a quarter.鈥) 鈥淧rofessors are very 鈥榟uman,鈥 helpful, and informed,鈥 but students鈥 praise of instructors is not unqualified: 鈥減rofessors tend to be (but are not all) very good.鈥 鈥淭he administration heads are accessible and supportive.鈥 For example, 鈥淭he President has weekly meetings with students to get feedback about campus issues.鈥 However, students are perturbed that after all that feedback, the administration still 鈥渙ften takes a disciplinary tone.鈥 Business and nursing are reportedly top programs here. Students believe the school could stand to build 鈥渁 few newer facilities.鈥

Student Body

The typical student at Walla Walla has 鈥済rown up in the Seventh-Day Adventist educational system.鈥 Not surprising, given that 鈥淢any students have parents who work for the church in some capacity.鈥 Students are 鈥減redominantly white鈥 and 鈥渕iddle class,鈥 as well as 鈥渇riendly and open-minded.鈥 Some go so far as to call their peers 鈥済enuine givers [who] really want to get to know other students.鈥 No wonder students report feeling 鈥渃ompletely comfortable going places or to events on campus alone because the student body feels like family in that most everyone is accepting and warm.鈥 Despite what the virtual open admissions policy might lead you to believe, most students here are 鈥渕otivated鈥 and 鈥渉ardworking.鈥 Statistically, the school is quite ethnically diverse, so it comes as no surprise to many that 鈥渕inorities fit in without any real friction.鈥

Campus Life

Walla Walla University is located in the picturesque southeastern corner of Washington State. 鈥淭he Walla Walla Valley is beautiful and offers a lot of outdoor activities. In winter we ski at Bluewood or sled in the mountains. In spring we tube down the rivers.鈥 鈥淲hen it鈥檚 warm outside we play Frisbee or football.鈥 Students also like to 鈥済o out for coffee or lunch鈥 and visit 鈥減laces around town.鈥 鈥淭here is enough to do off-campus to provide variety, but not enough so that everyone leaves on the weekends and parties.鈥 On campus, 鈥渋nstead of fraternities and sororities, we have many clubs that students can join to have fun.鈥 Volunteering is reportedly to a big thing to do here. 鈥淲alla Walla students tend to be dedicated and hardworking, yet generous. For example, each quarter classes are cancelled for Service Day. Students are encouraged to sign up for a community project and serve for the day鈥esides the quarterly service, campus ministries provide many committed students opportunities to serve others.鈥 Students gripe that 鈥淭he food options on campus are not that varied, or that good!鈥
