Academics

Located just eight miles outside of Baltimore, Towson University is the second-largest school in Maryland鈥檚 public university system, offering its nearly 20,000 students more than sixty undergraduate majors. The 鈥減roximity to Baltimore and D.C. are great for job opportunities,鈥 and students find 鈥渕any internships鈥 there too. Since the school offers 鈥渁 never-ending fountain of free resources,鈥 they also have access to tutoring, skills classes, 鈥渆ssay proofreading, [and] laptop repairs鈥 on campus. This support extends beyond the classroom, too: 鈥淭here are a lot of resources at our disposal if we ever need help academically, physically, or emotionally.鈥 This is the result of initiative the school takes in 鈥渃atering to the students鈥 needs.鈥 As another student says, 鈥淭he campus is constantly striving to improve.鈥

The majority of students agree that faculty are 鈥渨ell-educated and know how to further explain concepts.鈥 Professors ensure that when students sit down in class, it 鈥渋sn鈥檛 just boring slides,鈥 and it 鈥渙ften involves different forms of technology.鈥 If a student can鈥檛 grasp a concept, teachers usually 鈥渁re willing to go the extra mile until it is understood.鈥 And while Towson may be sizable, 鈥渢here are enough professors here [such] that learning is as personalized as it would be on a smaller campus.鈥 That means small class sizes in which 鈥測ou can get to know your professors and classmates鈥; group work that 鈥渁llows you to replicate the skills that you have been learning in class鈥; and teachers who 鈥渞elate the material to the real world and show how we will use the material in real-life situations.鈥

Student Body

鈥淒iverse and inclusive鈥 Towson consists of 鈥渕ostly in-state and commuting students.鈥 But the school is large, which means there鈥檚 quite a range in the student body. And students find 鈥渉aving people from all over is very eye-opening and is a very valuable experience.鈥 But rest assured that there is still 鈥渁 sense of community even though it is a large campus.鈥 Here, 鈥渂eing yourself is highly encouraged.鈥 Students find they 鈥渃an meet people anywhere on campus and make friends, receive help on homework, or just make casual conversation.鈥 One student says, 鈥淚t's always easy to see old friends and meet new people at the same time.鈥 Overall, people here 鈥渁re open to any and every other person on campus鈥 and most 鈥渁re really energetic and share a lot of school pride.鈥

Campus Life

Towson offers 鈥減lenty of 鈥 ways to get involved on campus, both academically and socially.鈥 These can range from quirky events like 鈥減etting goats [or] Carnival-like games at the library鈥 to things you might expect like 鈥渢alent shows, dance shows, football games, [and] plays.鈥 For those who live on campus, 鈥渢here are a ton of really unique floor events and building events,鈥 like 鈥淒IYs 鈥 and game nights.鈥 But whether they live on campus or not, students tend to 鈥渇ill their days with class, and the gym is very popular in the evening.鈥 When Friday rolls around, 鈥渟ome students will spend their weekend relaxing as well as completing some homework,鈥 whereas others will head to the bars and 鈥渢he abundance of restaurants in Uptown Towson.鈥 Other pastimes in town include going to the Towson Mall, which 鈥渋s right up the street from campus [and] is also a popular hangout spot.鈥 Those looking for more outdoorsy things to do can rest easy. The school鈥檚 location provides 鈥渂oth natural outdoor beauty and city life,鈥 and 鈥渋n the springtime and 鈥 the fall there鈥檚 lots to do outside on campus.鈥
