Academics

At Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, you get 鈥渢he personal touch.鈥 Because Schreiner is small, 鈥渃lasses offer more student-teacher interaction and cohesion.鈥 The 鈥渒nowledgeable, intelligent, worldly professors鈥 are 鈥減ublished researchers, and have a lot to offer academically.鈥 Faculty 鈥渨ork hard鈥very time we step into a classroom and鈥uring office hours if you need help understanding something in greater detail.鈥 Schreiner also provides a number of 鈥渞esources that enable its students to achieve their goals,鈥 including a 鈥淪TEM Zone, filled with study materials relating to STEM courses鈥 that help students better understand the concepts they are learning in class, 鈥渟uccess coaches that advise students on how to organize and balance their schedule,鈥 a Tutoring Center, and 鈥渁n amazing LSS program for students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia.鈥 The President of the college is 鈥渁ccessible,鈥 and 鈥渁ttends events put on by the Student Government Association in which he hears the students鈥 concerns and has open dialogue with us.鈥 Other notable offerings include the 鈥淕reystone Preparatory School at Schreiner University, a program for re-applicants to the federal service academies,鈥 a 鈥渃ampus ministry program,鈥 plenty of 鈥渙pportunities for research and study abroad,鈥 and 鈥渘etworking opportunities鈥 through alumni.

Student Body

Schreiner attracts 鈥渟tudents from all over the state鈥 who are 鈥渇riendly鈥 and 鈥渟upportive.鈥 The student population is 鈥渄iverse for such a small campus in the middle of the Texas Hill country.鈥 Students tend to be 鈥渜uiet鈥 and less social than at some schools, but 鈥渇riendly,鈥 and 鈥渁lways there to help you.鈥 Students have a 鈥済reat campus life鈥 and 鈥渙pportunities to make meaningful friendships with others by being in learning communities,鈥 which include STEM students, 鈥渁 global scholars group, and a religious group, as well.鈥 You don鈥檛 have to be in a learning community, but 鈥渋t is encouraged.鈥 There is economic diversity, with students 鈥渇rom low-income households鈥ttending Schreiner University with the aid of scholarships.鈥 And there is camaraderie between classes, as well. One first-year student who started off in upper level classes says, 鈥淚t was a bit intimidating being in a room full of juniors. However, these upperclassmen eventually became my mentors and tutors. They helped me better transition into the college life and showed me ways to get involved.鈥

Campus Life

The atmosphere at Schreiner University 鈥渃an almost be described as...quaint,鈥 one student says. 鈥淪hrubbery encloses the outdoor walkways鈥 and 鈥渟tudents are often seen riding retro-style bikes along the sidewalks.鈥 Campus life is shaped by a 鈥渟mall鈥 and 鈥渂eautiful鈥 campus that invites 鈥渂eing outside,鈥 participating in events put on by one of 鈥渙ver fifty recognized student organizations,鈥 鈥渧olunteering,鈥 or just 鈥渟pending time with friends.鈥 But students often get out 鈥渢o discover parts of Kerrville,鈥 鈥済o to San Antonio鈥 on weekends, 鈥渟wimming or paddle boarding at the local river,鈥 getting some time in with the pups at the 鈥渓ocal dog parks,鈥 鈥渉iking,鈥 鈥渙r movie nights with friends.鈥 Athletics are big at Schreiner, with 鈥渁 lot of varsity sports to choose from and participate in, as well as a blossoming intramural league system.鈥 A lot of people 鈥渢ake advantage of the Lions Den and sports centers.鈥
