Oklahoma City University attendees reap the benefits of 鈥渟mall class sizes,鈥 鈥渄iversity of the student body and faculty,鈥 鈥渄iverse coursework,鈥 and 鈥渋nternship and job opportunities鈥 available by being in the 鈥渉eart of Oklahoma City.鈥 The university is well-known for the Ann Lacy School of Dance and Entertainment鈥檚 performing arts programs including 鈥渁cting, musical theatre, vocal performance, theatre for young audiences, dance and dance management.鈥 Students also note the university鈥檚 鈥渁mazing scholarships and financial aid.鈥 鈥淓xceptional professors鈥 offer diverse 鈥渙pportunities for students in their specific field of study,鈥 and 鈥渓oving鈥 staff give ample 鈥渆ncouragement to pursue other interests and join various on-campus organizations鈥 as well as offering 鈥渢utoring and mentoring programs.鈥 Faculty come from 鈥渞ich professional backgrounds in business and media and provide students with real-world examples of the career field they鈥檙e studying to become a part of.鈥 鈥淪ervice learning鈥 and 鈥渆xperiential learning鈥 are mandatory, and forward-thinking policies include 鈥減aperless classes鈥 and the 鈥淧OGIL鈥擯rocess Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning鈥攎ethod of teaching.鈥
Student Body
OKCU鈥檚 community of students is 鈥渋ncredibly welcoming鈥 and 鈥渟upportive.鈥 Most have 鈥渁 love for the arts鈥 and are 鈥減rogress-oriented.鈥 Another 鈥渓arge portion鈥 of the student population is 鈥渋nvolved in university athletics,鈥 including international students. 鈥淭here is so much talent here,鈥 says one student. 鈥淵ou hear music from everywhere or someone rehearsing their dialogue for their plays.鈥 Students praise the 鈥済reat deal of diversity鈥 across religion, culture, and age-range. Older students with families should know that they would never be 鈥渄iscouraged from bringing their children on campus after class, or even to class.鈥
Campus Life
Students at OKCU love the 鈥渂eautiful campus鈥 and an environment that provides 鈥渟upport and love from students and faculty鈥 alike. Students enjoy 鈥渢he dedication to Greek life,鈥 are generally involved in multiple extracurricular activities and organizations on campus, and otherwise fulfill the promise of the school鈥檚 nickname, 鈥淥ver Committed University.鈥 These commitments, however, are usually drawn on 鈥減assion,鈥 and students often put in extra work to help each other. One student says 鈥渨e are extremely supportive of one another,鈥 and 鈥渨e often collaborate on multi-cultural and artistic projects.鈥 On weekends, students 鈥渆xplore the growing city鈥 and its 鈥渞estaurants, bars, and parks.鈥 On campus, there鈥檚 鈥渁lways a multicultural event, speaker, or some type of performance going on鈥 and people also 鈥渓ove to socialize outside our marketplace, Alvin鈥檚.鈥 Additionally, the student government often hosts 鈥渂ashes, carnivals, and get-togethers for all students鈥 throughout the year.
