Academics
Methodist-affiliated Kentucky Wesleyan College affords students 鈥渁 great Christian atmosphere鈥 that 鈥渉elps you grow into a moral and well-educated adult. KWC offers a 鈥渟mall college experience鈥 complete with 鈥渟mall classes,鈥 plenty of 鈥渟cholarship opportunities,鈥 and a career-oriented liberal arts program offering a 鈥渂road range of majors.鈥 The popular business administration and management program offers a ton of valuable internships. 鈥淭he campus is a very tight-knit place.鈥 鈥淵ou have the feeling of actually belonging and that you do matter[s], whereas in some larger schools there are just too many people.鈥 The 鈥渆nthusiastic鈥 professors 鈥渁re wonderful.鈥 鈥淭hey are very caring individuals鈥 who 鈥済o above and beyond what could be expected of them.鈥 鈥淭hey also expect a lot out of their students,鈥 although this is balanced by their efforts to 鈥渕ake time for students who are struggling.鈥 鈥淎dministrators are helpful and almost always accessible,鈥 and there is a conspicuous 鈥渓ack of red tape.鈥 Although it 鈥済ets nothing done fast,鈥 administrators, as well as 鈥渢he cleaning ladies鈥 and 鈥渢he cafeteria staff,鈥 鈥渁ctually care鈥 and 鈥済et to know you.鈥 Campus technology is frustrating; the Internet is 鈥渃ripplingly slow.鈥
Student Body
KWC鈥檚 鈥済enerally normal,鈥 鈥渞egular kids鈥 are 鈥渘ice鈥 and 鈥渁thletic.鈥 There are 鈥渘ot many nontraditional students, minority students, or low-income students.鈥 Certainly, there are 鈥渘ot a lot of 鈥榩unk鈥 types.鈥 鈥淜entucky Wesleyan pretty much has two types of students,鈥 observes a first-year student: 鈥渁thletes and the rest.鈥 Athletes come from a lot of different backgrounds. 鈥淭he rest of the student body is pretty much made up of very religious White students鈥 鈥渇rom the local area,鈥 who 鈥渆nrolled in college right out of high school,鈥 explains a senior. They come from 鈥渕iddle-class鈥 families and many 鈥渁re on scholarship.鈥 AT KWC, 鈥淢any students are religious,鈥 but 鈥淎 large majority come from different denominations. However, if a student is atheist or otherwise religiously affiliated, no prejudices occur.鈥
Campus Life
鈥淭he campus isn鈥檛 very big鈥 but it鈥檚 鈥渟afe.鈥 鈥淭he food tastes good only during admissions events, and then it takes a nosedive.鈥 Intramural sports are popular. 鈥淢any of the students here are athletes and very active.鈥 鈥淓ach Tuesday there is a movie shown on campus for free.鈥 There are 鈥渃oncerts, comedians, and other entertainment once a week.鈥 鈥淭he library is a hangout place.鈥 KWC 鈥渋sn鈥檛 really a party campus,鈥 though. It鈥檚 鈥渁 Methodist institution that wishes it [were] more Methodist, but its students wish that it [weren鈥檛] so Methodist.鈥 Greek life exists but it is reportedly 鈥減retty lame.鈥 鈥淲hen guys on my hall get bored, we鈥檒l play any sport that has no business being played inside,鈥 claims one student. 鈥淕olf is my personal favorite because it鈥檚 so wildly dangerous.鈥 Believe it or not, the surrounding town of Owensboro 鈥渋s a great city to be in,鈥 according to a sophomore. 鈥淭here are several bars located in the area and a couple of clubs.鈥 鈥淭here is always something to do.鈥 Still, 鈥渓ife isn鈥檛 as fast-paced as it is in the big city.鈥 When road trips become necessary, Louisville and Nashville are nearby.
