Academics

Many students are drawn to Florida Gulf Coast University thanks to its 鈥渧ery low tuition,鈥 which stems from 鈥渕any opportunities for financial aid.鈥 In addition to that, enrollees are quick to highlight the fact that 鈥渦ndergraduate research opportunities are ample,鈥 some even citing the chance 鈥渢o be published even prior to graduate school.鈥 In general, they note that the university鈥檚 鈥渕ajor programs are amazing and well planned out,鈥 in particular engineering, nursing, and the College of Education. The classes within those programs 鈥渁re reasonably sized,鈥 which allows students 鈥渢o form close relationships with many 鈥 professors.鈥 And speaking of professors, by and large, undergraduates report that they鈥檙e 鈥減assionate about their subjects and willing to go above and beyond.鈥 One student says, 鈥淭hey dedicate so much of their time 鈥 and it is very obvious.鈥 But fair warning: 鈥淭hey want you to put in the effort as well.鈥

Student Body

It鈥檚 鈥渘ot hard to make friends鈥 at Florida Gulf. The campus is 鈥渆xtremely inclusive and diverse鈥 with students who 鈥渃ome from all walks of life.鈥 But while they may bring plenty of experiences to the table, they鈥檙e all described as 鈥渇riendly, respectful,鈥 鈥渉onest, and intelligent.鈥 Looking around campus, you鈥檒l find individuals who are 鈥渉ighly eco-friendly and environmentally conscious,鈥 and those 鈥渨ho would rather spend a day outside than inside.鈥 Students also state that 鈥渋ntegrity is very common [around] campus.鈥 This is especially illustrated by a student who shares, 鈥淚 left my MacBook in a classroom [all day] and found it right where I left it and it had never been moved.鈥 That might be because, as one student assures, 鈥淓veryone on campus always seems to be having a 鈥 good time and happy with their life at FGCU.鈥 Another concurs, stating, 鈥淭he students are here to chill out and have fun.鈥 Overall, those at FGCU are 鈥渕otivated [and] environmentally conscious people looking to better themselves and their communities.鈥

Campus Life

Students at FGCU certainly prioritize their academics, typically spending the majority of their week 鈥渄edicated to classes and studying.鈥 That said, there鈥檚 plenty to enjoy in lulls between work. Often 鈥渕usic is playing on the library lawn or different clubs and organizations are tabling and have fun activities for you to try.鈥 Undergrads also love that 鈥渢he housing areas have game rooms, video game rooms, and massage chairs.鈥 And for anyone looking for even more unique activities, students cite things such as 鈥渨orking in the Food Forest [which is a student-run botanical garden highlighting edible species from the area], blindfold yoga, or dancing in the rain.鈥 Of course, many students flock to the on-campus beach to 鈥渉ang out or rent kayaks, paddle boards, and more鈥濃攕ome even go there just to study.
