Academics

Corban is 鈥渙ne tight knit community of believers.鈥 A requisite for attending Corban is a 鈥減rofession of your faith in Christ in written form,鈥 so students 鈥渢end to have a strong Christian background regardless of their denomination.鈥 Students range from 鈥渢hose who were home-schooled their entire lives, and flock to the others who were raised similarly, to kids who dearly miss their beloved high school dances, and know how to bend the rules.鈥 Despite the conservative bent of most Corban students, they are 鈥減retty accepting.鈥 One student writes, 鈥淚'm not always the 鈥榗ookie-cutter Christian鈥 and people don't expect that.鈥 鈥淪piritual integrity鈥 is the 鈥渙ne common chord鈥 that runs through the student body, with students reporting that 鈥渁 typical Corban student would feel totally comfortable leaving an iPod and laptop unwatched in the library for hours knowing that he or she can trust the other students to respect their property.鈥 Overall, students feel that the school is 鈥渙ne big family鈥 where 鈥渆veryone has a place.鈥

Student Body

Life at Corban doesn鈥檛 represent the typical college experience, as students 鈥渄on鈥檛 party and stuff as much. While that does go on to some extent at our school, you are definitely a minority if you participate in unhealthy lifestyle habits.鈥 That being said, Corban students are an active bunch, taking advantage of all that the nearby towns of Salem, Portland and Eugene have to offer, including 鈥渢he beach, lakes (boating), rivers (fishing/tubing), mountains (skiing/snowboarding).鈥 Students also make their own fun on campus, and 鈥渓ove to watch movies, go bowling, shooting, hunting, fishing, dancing, rock climbing.鈥 The one major complaint students had was that there is no place to hang out on campus after midnight. Says one student, 鈥淚 realize that most people assume we should be asleep, but we are adults and in college and have a right to choose to either stay up or go to sleep. If a guy wants to hang out with a girl after midnight then he must go off campus鈥t would be nice to have a place where guys and girls can hang out after midnight on campus and not be alone, but with others.鈥

Campus Life

Students describe Corban as 鈥渁 place to prepare you for a strong life with a good education and an even greater relationship with the Lord.鈥 Most of the professors 鈥渢each Christ no matter the discipline, providing an enjoyable and intuitive walk through my major in light of the scriptures.鈥 Students had rave reviews for the faculty, saying that 鈥淚 am daily overwhelmed with the wealth of knowledge found in my professors鈥 and that they provide 鈥渆xamples for us to follow in our everyday lives.鈥 鈥淓asily accessible outside of the classroom,鈥 instructors 鈥渆ncourage you to talk to them if you ever have any questions or concerns.鈥 Although students say that the courses are 鈥渨ell planned鈥 with 鈥渨ell-designed curriculum,鈥 鈥渃lasses are often scheduled at the same times which creates schedule conflicts, especially for seniors.鈥 Most importantly, students say that Corban 鈥渃are(s) about me as an individual. That is why I'm here.鈥
