Academics

Cedarville University, a Baptist school in western Ohio, is 鈥渁 Christ-centered university鈥 seeking to 鈥減rovide students with a top-notch education grounded in a Biblical worldview while equipping them for a lifetime of success and service鈥 through 鈥渃lasses, chapel, bible studies, ministries, and campus life.鈥 Academics are rigorous here with 鈥渁n enormous stress on personal success,鈥 with the result that graduates 鈥渁re equipped to go into the world as engineers, pastors, artists, etc., to make a difference for Christ.鈥 Cedarville 鈥渄oesn't compromise its standards,鈥 meaning all classes are taught in accordance with belief in the inerrancy of Scripture and Creationism, and all students must complete a Bible minor (which some here tell us 鈥渋s often a waste of a lot of time for Christians who understand the basics of the faith鈥) and attend daily chapel. With a community 鈥渟o close-knit鈥hat sometimes we refer to it as the 鈥楥edarville bubble,鈥欌 Cedarville undergrads enjoy profs who 鈥渕ake themselves very available to students and are willing to help in whatever way can,鈥 and whose 鈥渃are for students is obvious as is their desire to see each one fulfill his or her potential,鈥 as well as an administration that is 鈥渧ery engaged with the student body.鈥

Student Body

鈥淭he typical student [at Cedarville] is a committed Christian鈥攖hat's why they choose to come to Cedarville.鈥 They are also 鈥渇riendly and willing to engage in significant conversation about a variety of topics鈥 and 鈥渧ery school-spirited! Many students show up for sporting events, and it is not uncommon to see people dressed up or with painted faces at basketball games.鈥 The majority of students are white, middle class, and 鈥減rofess conservative political beliefs.鈥 Those who don't fit this prototype warn that they are sometimes 鈥渢reated terribly by the majority of the student body, especially since the conservative majority views it as their religious duty to 鈥榗orrect鈥 the liberal.鈥

Campus Life

鈥淔or the most part you have to make your own fun鈥 at Cedarville, as 鈥渢he school is pretty far out of town, so unless you have a car you hang around campus.鈥 No wonder many students tell us that 鈥淟ife at Cedarville is unexciting.鈥 For many, 鈥淢inistry is what defines life at Cedarville University. Almost everyone is involved in a ministry that fits their personality and interests, whether it be volunteering at a school or hospital or being on a music or athletic team. There are so many ministries to be involved in it's absolutely amazing. Chapel is another thing that defines Cedarville. Every day our whole student body gathers together for an hour to worship and listen to a speaker.鈥 Otherwise, 鈥渇or fun,鈥 undergrads 鈥渉ang out with each other in the dorms, and on the weekends we go to restaurants and movies, play putt-putt, paintball, go to football games at Central State, and hike at the Gorge.鈥 On campus 鈥淭here are pretty frequent school-sponsored activities鈥uch as performances by students in the cafe, costume parties, outdoor games, dorm wars, etc.鈥 When all else fails 鈥淭here are two larger towns relatively close and even Dayton about 45 minutes away鈥 and 鈥渁ll provide entertainment through shopping, hanging out, eating, or just sight-seeing.鈥
