The Savannah College of Art and Design specializes in 鈥減ractical applications鈥 of fine arts education and preparing students with 鈥渢he connections, resources, and opportunities鈥 they need to find job placement after graduation. The College is 鈥渁lways bringing in companies鈥 which 鈥渙pen doors,鈥 and students have strong connections with alumni. Unique collaborations come out of these connections with industry contacts, such as the Collaborative Learning Center, 鈥渨here multidisciplinary teams of students come together under the guidance of a professor to develop a product, campaign, or solution of a problem for a real world company.鈥 Other real-world work collaborations include working with 鈥渟everal major festivals like the Savannah Film Festival,鈥 which offer bonus opportunities for networking. 鈥淚 have been offered jobs solely because I have SCAD on my resume,鈥 says one student. Another says, 鈥淭he networking is incredible. I鈥檝e had my portfolio reviewed by people at the top of my industry.鈥 Students crow over the school鈥檚 鈥渜uality, professional equipment and facilities鈥 and 鈥渦p-to-date technology.鈥 Each and every program has a 鈥渄edicated staff, beautiful buildings and resources, large-scale events, and a passionate student body,鈥 which creates an immersive experience that offers 鈥渁uthentic interactions with alumni and real-world people.鈥 Students point to the 鈥渄ynamic range鈥 of majors and programs, including Industrial Design and Interior Design, and 鈥渞are鈥 offerings such as the UX Design and Service Design. The professors are 鈥渞emarkable.鈥 They have 鈥渞elevant work-force experience and a passion for instilling passion in students.鈥 Faculty 鈥渞espects students and are respected right back.鈥 Says one student: 鈥淚 am good friends鈥攍ifelong friends鈥攚ith my professors.鈥

Student Body

SCAD students are 鈥渋ncredibly unique鈥 and 鈥渆ccentric鈥 artists dedicated to 鈥減ushing their work into new, exciting forms.鈥 This creates an 鈥渆nvironment of constant exploration and creation鈥 among an 鈥渙pen and accepting community.鈥 As a group, SCAD students tend to be 鈥渓iberal, innovated, passionate, and motivated.鈥 Students take pride in all of the hard work they put into the short quarter system. Students mention touring other schools and finding the 鈥渜uality of work to blow theirs out of the water.鈥 Students note that this isn鈥檛 just鈥攐r even mostly鈥攁bout recruiting talent, but rather it is indicative of SCAD 鈥減ushing鈥 students with 鈥渋ntense workloads that trains us to not settle for average ideas.鈥 Says one student: 鈥淚 would say that my peers are very creative and critical. SCAD definitely trains students to engage in detailed critiques of theirs and others鈥 work.鈥 Students come from all over the world to attend SCAD, and 鈥渦nite to foster creative thinking and innovation through their work, as well as share ideas.鈥 As a whole, students are 鈥渧ery supportive of each other and their work.鈥 International students feel that their 鈥渘eeds are taken into consideration鈥 and appreciate the 鈥渃ulturally diverse鈥 classrooms. Students generally feel that 鈥渢here鈥檚 great integration between U.S. students and international students.鈥 鈥淵ou can really pick up on your peer鈥檚 talents,鈥 a student says. And this being an art school, you can鈥檛 overlook the benefits of the student body being 鈥渜uite a stylish bunch.鈥

Campus Life

While campus life is focused mostly on work, the school is well integrated into the city, with 鈥淪CAD buildings all over Savannah,鈥 and 鈥測ou can work in any of them.鈥 Life in Savannah offers tons of events, such as Art March, Taste Of Savannah, and the farmers market that happens around the city. There鈥檚 鈥済reat nightlife,鈥 as well, with restaurants and a healthy bar scene. For fun in the sun, Tybee Beach is just a twenty-minute drive away. There鈥檚 also Forsyth Park, where groups of students often gather to relax or work on projects. There is 鈥渁 lot of time spent doing homework, working on projects and collaborative projects across majors,鈥 but students say the 鈥渨ork is meaningful鈥 and often tied to what they are 鈥減assionate about.鈥 Yes, students work hard at SCAD, but there are good options for de-stressing, including a 鈥渇itness facility,鈥 鈥渙ccasional parties,鈥 even though 鈥渕ost people just go downtown,鈥 and 鈥渨eekend road trips to surrounding states.鈥
