Academics

Iowa鈥檚 Morningside College is sixty-eight acres of 鈥渂eautiful campus,鈥 and it boasts a job and graduate school placement rate of 99 percent as well as a 100 percent rate of students receiving financial aid. At Morningside, there is an 鈥渋ntentional focus on a liberal arts education,鈥 and since 鈥渋t鈥檚 not an especially large school 鈥 there are a lot of opportunities that may not be available to a larger student body.鈥 That includes May Terms, which give students the opportunity to take classes not normally offered (many choose Study Abroad) and the Palmer Research Symposium, an undergraduate research day that 鈥渁llows students to gain experience in creating and presenting research across the disciplines.鈥 Off-campus learning opportunities extend the curriculum, offering opportunities such as job shadowing, service learning, internships, and clinical experience.

Bolstering the academics are professors, described by some as 鈥渢he best thing about the college.鈥 These educators 鈥渁re sincerely focused on teaching their students everything they can,鈥 and small class sizes make faculty 鈥渕ore accessible and personable鈥濃攎ost 鈥渁re on a first name basis with their students鈥 and are 鈥渧ery quick to respond to emails relating to homework.鈥 If you want an in-person conversation, they are also 鈥渕ore than willing to talk to students about anything.鈥 It鈥檚 clear that the faculty 鈥渞eally care about the topics that you are learning,鈥 and while there are some lectures, 鈥渕any professors pose questions to lead discussion and then just let the students talk about what they think.鈥

Student Body

Since this is a 鈥渃lose knit and tight group,鈥 Morningside 鈥渉as a small community feeling within a larger city.鈥 Here, 鈥渇riendly smiles and hellos are what you will see along the campus no matter what,鈥 and 鈥渆veryone wants to get to know everyone鈥濃攁nd there鈥檚 a lot to get to know about each other since there are 鈥渁 good number of foreign students.鈥 But while 鈥渆verybody has their own opinion, 鈥 everyone respects each other's opinions.鈥 In general, 鈥渆veryone 鈥 is very enthusiastic,鈥 and that extends into the neighboring areas as well: 鈥淪tudents enjoy volunteering in the surrounding community.鈥

Campus Life

Students love Morningside 鈥渋n the spring, [when] all the flowers and trees are blossoming.鈥 And when students aren't studying, 鈥減eople hang out, use the pool rooms in the dorm building, go to the mall or the movies,鈥 or 鈥渉ang around in the lounges of the residence hall or head down to hang out in the grill of the student center.鈥 Students can find something to do, since there 鈥渁re always events happening on campus鈥 such as 鈥渟lam poetry, guest speakers,鈥 scavenger hunts, 鈥渃omedians, magicians, and bingo,鈥 all of which serves to 鈥渂ring the student Mustangs together.鈥 Keeping students even busier, a good number of them are 鈥渋nvolved in extracurricular activities or have jobs on campus or in the surrounding community.鈥 And speaking of the Sioux City community, establishments around town offer additional options for a night out, 鈥済iving Morningside students free movie nights 鈥 [and] karaoke nights.鈥
