Falmouth has one of the largest dedicated game development studio spaces of any UK university. Our students have access to spacious, team-focused, professional-standard studios; as well as a dedicated craft room, breakout spaces, and a range of industry-standard software, management tools and game engines.
Our large games development studios are open late during term time, encouraging creative collaborations between students. Students also have access to weekly life drawing sessions, motion capture suits, augmented reality and mixed reality technology, and 3D printers.
Beyond the Games Academy, our libraries offer a wealth of print and online resources, including textbooks, journals, magazines, audio-visual material, images, news, archives, academic, creative and industry databases. The Penryn Library is open 24/7 during term time.
Students can also explore the outstanding facilities in faculties across the university through our Wednesday Open Workshops initiative, where the studios, workshops and resources across the university are available for anyone to use and develop their skills.
In terms of health and fitness, our Sports Centre and gym on Penryn Campus, includes a spacious fitness studio, including cardiovascular, resistance and free weights areas. A four-court sports hall is available for hire for a range of sports and activities, including 5-a-side football, tennis and badminton. Our fitness studio runs a variety of fun, weekly classes; from yoga and pilates to circuits and kettlebells.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Our location offers a student life like no other. Our energetic, creative towns of Falmouth and Penryn offer a rich amazing cultural and social scene, with some of the UK's most stunning natural landscapes right on the doorstep.
Consistently rated as one of the best places to live in the UK by the Sunday Times, Falmouth offers something for everyone, all year round.
Falmouth offers a buzzing nightlife, with the high street full of lively bars and venues hosting live music, open mic sessions and club nights. Our region of Cornwall is known for its festival calendar, from major events like Boardmasters, to the iconic Sea Shanty Festival and foodie festivals that draw big crowds.
For those who relish the outdoors, Falmouth and the wider Cornish landscape provides boundless opportunities. There aren't many universities with golden beaches only a few minutes' walk from the campus, and from coastal walks to sea swimming, paddleboarding, surfing or something more adrenaline fueled, there's no shortage of things to do.
Famous for its artistic and cultural heritage, Cornwall offers plenty for creative inspiration, from the Tate St Ives, to the Eden Project.
With a rich industrial history, Cornwall is now at the forefront of the future-economy, where new initiatives in space, rare earth minerals and renewable energy are flourishing.
A thriving digital and tech sector is providing exciting opportunities, not only in the region but further afield, as Cornwall's globally connected businesses expand and grow.
We are well connected for travel across the UK and beyond. Cornwall airport Newquay provides a handy link to major UK cities including a daily connection to London. There are frequent trains between our campuses, to the city of Truro and out of county to London and the UK's other major cities.
